Are we creating a fearful generation?

We talk about years ago when we could go out and play and our parents wouldn’t worry.  Has much changed?  There were nasty crimes of all natures committed back then but the level of fear was so much less.

So what are the reasons for all of this fear?

I believe the access to information 24/7 is causing much of this fear.  Years ago the news was on the television at certain times of day and now we have access day and night, news feeds that flash up on our computers and phones – of course almost always bad news, social media – highlighting all the negative events in the world and we are often not even sure what is real and what is spoof.  No wonder we have created a society full of fears and anxieties.

What can we do about it?

Don’t give energy to all the negativity.  Consider the reason behind what you share anything on social media – there may be good reason but be aware that by sharing you are giving energy to events.  Stop the negative news feeds – you will feel so much better not to be told every 10 minutes that something awful has happened around the world.  Be aware of what you talk about – again spending much time talking about the negative events gives them energy.  Limit the amount of time you watch the news.   Remember that social media and news companies are all competing for your attention so they have to make news dramatic.

On a Positive Note

Spend time focusing on positive events such as good deeds, celebrations and successes such as in business and sports.  Sign up to some positive news.   Practice gratitude – every day think of 3 things you are grateful for.  Be positive…..notice whenever you have a negative thought – replace it with something positive.

And Remember

For every negative news story you hear there are thousands and thousands of positive things happening in the world – so start to put it all into perspective.
